Project Title: CONSERVING THE OVERLOOKED SUBTERRANEAN CAVE HABITAT: A SUSTAINABILITY APPROACH [PIs – Dr. Manchi Shirish S. & Dr. Jaishri Sanwal Bhatt, JNCASR] [Detailed Notification]
• No. of Positions: ONE (1)
• Duration: 2 Years
• Essential Qualification: Post-graduate degree with a minimum of 55% marks in life sciences or environmental sciences (Zoology/Wildlife Biology/Wildlife Science/ Conservation Biology/Biodiversity Studies/Forestry/Ecological Sciences/Environmental Studies or any other allied disciplines) from a recognized university.
• Desirable Qualifications: i) Keen interest in cave and karst conservation; ii) skill in identification/classification of invertebrates and vertebrates, and in sampling and preserving techniques; iii) willingness to reside in remote locations with challenging conditions, and travel extensively by both road and sea between the islands; iv) proficiency in cave exploration and mapping, SRT technique, free climbing, and rock climbing; v) familiarity with data analysis and GIS tools; and vi) proficiency in Hindi.
• Upper Age Limit as on 31-03-2025: 35 Years
• Fellowship: Rs. 31,000 + HRA (as per DST-SERB rules)
• Description of Work: The Project Associate will i) conduct faunal surveys in remote caves with limited resources in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, ii) collect and analyze data on cave and karst ecosystems, iii) assist with social surveys to understand local cave and karst conservation perspectives, iv) work closely with the forest department and local communities to develop sustainable conservation/management plans, and v) assist Project Investigators in achieving project goals and other institutional activities.
